Here are some techniques you can keep with you to help you feel safe & strong:

  1. If you are able, contact Earth with your bare feet &/or hands. If not, perhaps you gift yourself the tactile experience of connecting with rocks, or sand, or soil, in your own home.

    From anywhere, any time:

  2. Pause. Breathe. Notice what you’re feeling & thinking.

  3. Touch your own body, applying pressure, while deepening the inhale into the belly. Exhale through the parts of your body contacting what you are sitting or lying on. No need to force the breath - allow the flow to be soft & easy. Let your body be heavy, weighted naturally by gravity. Focus on how you are held & supported.

  4. Give yourself permission to feel what you are feeling. Breathe into it. Know & maybe tell yourself, ‘It’s okay (to feel that).’ Breathe out into the feeling of being held & supported. As you apply pressure to your body, know & perhaps say, ‘I am here.’

  5. Toning / Humming. Breathe into and out of the pelvic region, creating spaciousness & release. Inhale & then tighten the muscles of the lower abdomen & pelvic region while humming, or toning the sound ‘Lam’, to vibrate this area of your body.

  6. Neck twists, rolls, & pulls. While continuing conscious breathing: Turn the neck to one side and then the other, looking over the shoulder; Roll the neck in gentle, slow circles in one direction & then the other; Bring both hands onto the neck & apply pressure, while allowing the hands to to pull forward toward the chest & letting the head drop gently forward.

  7. Squeeze or stomp the heels of your feet, or roll them on a ball. Or, if you are so blessed, allow someone you trust to rub &/or pound your heels for you.

  8. Focus on the connections between:

    Neck . Colon/Bowels . Knees . Pinky fingers & toes.

  9. Poetry is medicine! Lie Down / Nancy Paddock

  10. Get support. None of us can or should feel like we have to do this alone.
